A standing ovation for Susan Boyle on America’s Got Talent

susanboyleSusan Boyle sang on America’s Got Talent last night, nearly stealing the show from winner Kevin Skinner. The Scottish singer that took the world by storm with her searing version of “I Dreamed A Dream” for Britain’s version of the talent competition now has her sights firmly set on her career.

“I used to be a kind of spectator looking out at the world, but now I’m part of that world,” explained Boyle in a taped interview on last night’s Talent.

“And although frightening, I’m going to embrace it, because I feel a bit more confident within myself, more able to cope, more able to take part in the dream.”

It was, of course, a rocky road to confidence for Boyle. The self-described “virgin” checked into a mental health clinic, the Priory, after losing Britain’s Got Talent to the dance group Diversity.

“I look back at it now, it was a necessity because I was tired,” said Boyle. “I don’t know what was wrong with me, though.”

A YouTube video of Boyle’s Talent performance of “Dream” received millions of hits and put Boyle’s lifestyle and circumstances in the spotlight.

“With no pressure, and then having all this pressure on top of it, I found it a bit suffocating,” she said.

But all the struggle seems only to underscore how talented Susan actually is; last night her rendition of the Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses” received a standing ovation.

The world is ready for Susan Boyle–and now, she’s ready for the world.
