Best of British: Paul Weller is The Blobfather

Ex-Jam frontman Paul Weller, 50, pictured today keeping it real with a pint, a fag and a paunch. Weller really couldn’t look more British if he tried. In the ageing UK singer stakes, the Modfather is not cutting quite so fine a figure as speedo-wearing Simon Le Bon’s. He also has the whole hair-like-a-1980s-cricketer-grandad-problem to contend with. Weller told the Melbourne Herald Sun that the rock’n'roll life sustains youth in outlook, if not in looks. ‘‘You live the life, yeah, and you’re always looking forward to what you’re doing next, the next record … so that keeps you young mentally, I think,” he says. Weller recently released a new album called ‘22 Dreams’.

Why so down on Weller? It’s all too easy to talk about who someone is dating than talk about the subject that matters – THE MUSIC. And to make comparisons with that talentless tw@t Simon Le Bon indicates to me you’re lost for material. As soon as Le Bon or the rest of that shower of a band he’s in writes a number like ‘You’re The Best Thing,’ ‘My Ever Changing Moods’ ‘Wild Wood,’ ‘Into Tomorrow’ or ‘The Changingman’ you can criticise, until then, you lot are clearly a bunch of See You Next Tuesday’s.

Let’s here one of your songs
