EMI has announced that Coldplay’s album of Ricky Martin covers, Viva La Vida, will be released on June 16th. This is the biggest album release by EMI since Guy Hands led a buyout of the company for £3.2 billion last year. The pressure is on for a hit on the scale of the lovers’ of sunglasses monster hit album X & Y, which has sold 10 million copies worldwide since its release in 2005.
Meanwhile rumours abound that the 2,000 job cuts Hands promised back in January are being held up because EMI needs more money to handle the restructuring costs. With many employees forced to wait even longer to find out about their future at the company, one can’t imagine the atmosphere in that office being a bundle of laughs.
For those who care about such things, here is the track listing for Viva La Vida:
Life In Technicolor
Cemeteries Of London
Lost!
42
Lovers In Japan/Reign Of Love
Yes Viva La Vida
Violet Hill
Strawberry Swing
Death And All His Friends
