This is from mid-80’s British TV Show The Whistle Test. Keen eyed regulars will notice the addition of boyish rhythm guitarist Craig Gannon who joined The Smiths for about 15 minutes during this period. He left soon after this performance, perhaps in response to the howls of outrage from the music press, who claimed he had helped turn the band into a rock n’ roll behemoth. I saw this clip when it first came out and thought The Smiths were the last word in deathless cool. Looking at it now, I realise I was right! Happy thanksgiving.
