Joaquin Phoenix jumped offstage and was involved in a “confrontation” with a “heckler” last night in Miami Beach around 2 AM, AP reports. Tellingly, the entire incident was captured on camera by Casey Affleck, who’s making a documentary about Joaquin’s new career. Is it, like the ’secret’ parties and Letterman appearance, another “prank?”
It’s clear, if so, that Phoenix means something deep and meaningful about the commodification of music, the aggregation of press, exploiting the gossip mags, and so on. But unless Joaquin starts making some music, the world will eventually turn its head to some other canny pop cynic, like Soulja Boy. He has Yums on!
