Lady GaGa’s steamy Telephone video is just one big ad

Is LAdy GAGa for saleIs Lady GaGa for sale?

Her steamy nine minute video for Telephone has fans and critics going crazy but what they don’t know is that it is one big advertisement.

The babes behind bars film features a bounty of product placement. You can see the sexy video here.

And here are the nine products it’s pushing:

  • Virgin Mobile – a phone is snatched from the butch prison yard toughie’s waistband.(2.07)
  • Diet coke – Cans are used as rollers in Lady Gaga’s hair. (2.22)
  • Wonder bread a nd MiracleWhip – That’s the magic ingredients of sandwiches made by Gaga. (6.35)
  • Polaroid – a camera is used to photograph Beyonce. (5.45) By the way, GaGa is polaroid’s creative director and inventor of specialty products after inking a deal with the brand in January.
  • Also look out for Heartbeats Headphones (1.34), Chanel (2.17), PlentyOfFish.com (4.27) and Hewlett Packard (4.24).

Are these barnds getting value for money? Telephone has notched up over 20million plays on Youtube since its launch on March 13th. It’s enough to make it one of the top-rated shows of the week.

The video ends with this promise: “To be continued.” It’s a good bet that advertisers already are scrambling for some exposure in Part 2.

But is Lady GaGa in danger of selling out? What do you think?

take into consideration how music artists make money these days.. record sales, depending on who you talk to, are in the toilet.. record companies are notorious for ripping off artists.. more and more artists at all levels are selling themselves and their music to products (see a 1000 indie bands w/catchy songs or The black eyed peas for example.. barf).. so maybe she just wanted to offset the cost of her label’s ass rape by putting some product placement in her video and making some money back…

still, shilling for mayo or whatever is pretty lame but is anyone really surprised? they all do it. it’s not like these people are interested in anything more than being superficial wankers.

What’s weird about this is that the “product placements” are really just authentic parts of each scene… I mean, cell phones are SOME brand, and so are sodas, and in this world, it’s probably Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi, so to put in some generic soda name on a can is what’s actually weird. And a Polaroid camera – She’s working with them, for one thing, so it makes sense that she would promote the brand… It would be dumb of her not to. Plus, it authentically fits, and adds to the video.
Anyway, selling out? She makes POP music for MASS consumption. Her marketing plan has never been just about her art – The wonderful thing about Gaga is that she has managed to retain authentic artistry in her products, and instead of that being a detriment, it’s actually a huge part of her commercial success. The video is 100% Pulp Fiction Americana, thanks in part to those product placements.

Why is it that the same people who think it’s all great and grand to live in this capitalist society, and the Wall Street crowd can screw us left & right to get their money and it’s just part of the system, no big deal, but an artist putting something culturally relevant out there is a sell-out for aiming for the big bucks? Weird.

The weird thing is that the advertisements are BLATANT. Usually with product placement, one tries to be a little smooth. And I mean, PlentyOfFish.com and Virgin Mobile are not the most popular dating and cell services, respectively… I don’t get it. She could have easily gotten eHarmony and Verizon, for example. I also point out that the headphones are designed by her so they don’t count. People have been repping their own shit in videos for YEARS. So I have to wonder if it’s some kind of elaborate Gaga scheme. Then again, I’m the conspiracy theorist convinced that she started the rumor she was a man just so she could do what she did in Telephone.

Sorry, but this blog sucks. There isn’t one artist out there who hasn’t put products in their videos. Don’t single Gaga out as a “sell out” because many other artists are doing so as well…promoting their clothing line, perfume, favorite foods, shoes, purses, etc. HELLO? Where have you been? Artists have been doing so for years!!!

I think that no matter what gaga is unique in her own way no body talked bad about madona and what she did. And as far as her video being an “ad” is bull everybody promotes something in there video mostly alcohol, at least its positive!!!!!

Not only is this gaga zionazi fake she is butt ugly.
If it wasn’t for the fact she is a zionazi she wouldn’t have even been heard of. She would be murdering little children in Gaza

I do believe in an interview, Gaga stated that all the products were placed there for a reason. And also, she’s not the only singer whose done this. Pull your head out of your butt and you’d see artists have been doing this for years, so don’t mark her as “sell-out” without naming others. I personally think they were there for a reason as they were so, well, blatant. Gaga also said the video wouldn’t be fully understood until several months after its release. So maybe you should read up on Gaga’s interviews before accusing her of being a sell-out.
