“American Idol” producers want to hire radio shock-jock Howard Stern to replace sharp-tongued Simon Cowell on the hit singing competition. Sources say Stern has been in talks with “Idol,” but he’s not sure he’s ready to leave radio. “’Idol’ will do what it takes to sign him,” says a source, noting that his inevitable clashing with Ellen DeGeneres would make for great TV. /NYP 10

Dr. Conrad Murray plans to surrender at a Los Angeles courthouse at 1:30 p.m. today. The move follows several days of negotiations in which Murray’s lawyers tried to arrange with prosecutors for the late pop star Michael Jackson’s doctor to surrender for booking and arraignment. /AP

Brittany Murphy’s death was ruled an “accident” yesterday. The 32-year-old actress collapsed in her home Dec. 21 from pneumonia, anemia, lack of medical care and drug intoxication, the LA County coroner said. /NYP 13

It was reported yesterday that Casey Johnson died of natural causes. The Johnson & Johnson heiress died Jan. 5 after falling into diabetic shock. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter says the insulin-dependent socialite had stopped taking her much-needed medicine shortly before her death. /NYP 13

The Feds are preparing to auction off jewelry Anne Hathaway received from her fraudster ex-boyfriend, Rafaello Follieri. The nearly 30 items include two Rolex watches, a five-strand pearl necklace and a Louis Vuitton box. Among Follieri’s personal items to be auctioned off: a dozen pricey watches, a Cartier figurine and a Tiffany clock. /NYP 12
