Simon Cowell is on an unbelieveable roll. One of the highest paid TV execs of all time – he’s worth around $175million – he is about to launch his new show The X Factor in the US and marry his fiance Mezhgan Hussainy.
It seems that this modern day Icarus can fly as close to the sun as he wishes. His wings will never melt.
Or will they?
I have two words for Simon Cowell: Susan Boyle.
The troubled singer is a mess. Last night her brother admitted to People magazine that his sister needs “24 hour care. ”
Gerry Boyle said: “She needs to be looked after.
“The travelling and the whole [fame] thing is exhausting. She still has her anxieties,” he added.
In an earlier interview he confirmed that she was experiencing “crushing loneliness.”
Until 2007, the 48 year old singer, who suffered from learning difficulties as a child, lived with her mom in a small council house in Scotland. Since April last year, her life has become unrecognisable: a whirlwind of international celebrity.
The resulting cracks in her psyche are impossible to ignore.
After losing Britain’s Got Talent she went to the Priory clinic suffering from exhaustion. Four days later she was moved to an apartment and put under the care of Dr Sarah Lotzof. Since an intruder broke into her Scottish home, she has a 24 hour guard stationed on her front door. (Is it to keep intruders out, or her in?) Last month, she was caught attempting to polish strangers shoes with a mop while shouting obscenities in an airport lounge. Last week, she collapsed en route to the South of France.
Susan Boyle is not in control of her vehicle. And if – or rather when – she crashes out for good, who are the public likely to hold responsible? The one person who has benefitted most from her sudden, stratospheric fame.
Simon Cowell.
He might argue that Britain’s Got Talent and American Idol are “just talent shows” but he must be aware that he has put a fragile personality in a situation that – in all probability – will destroy her.
Simon, stop this madness before a human being’s life is all but ruined. If you won’t, I hope you can live with the consequences.
Interesting that none of these supposed breakdowns have been substantiated with any pictures or video footage. There are, however, many videos of Susan’s wonderful performances all over the world (e.g. U.S., Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Spain) in recent months- check out Susan’s website. If Susan is cracking up she certainly covers it well while on stage and for various pictures captured of her by the paparazzi going about her daily life.
You know her brothers were paid a lot to say these things. Don’t be so gullible.
Actually there are images of her sucking her thumb at Rockefeller Center and being comforted at the airport by her manager. It is a matter of record that she suffers from depression – she’s said it herself (see past posts). I think you may be looking for conspiracy where none exists.
Andy,
The thumb sucking incident has been explained over and over on the internet. At a luncheon with fans, one of them asked her when she would be singing in or visiting her city, and Susan replied “Baby steps, baby steps,” and BRIEFLY stuck her thumb in her mouth as a JOKE. The airport incident was just Susan being spontaneous and quirky. She was doing some impromptu singing with the mop as her “mike” in the lounge and some jerk got in her face, so she wiped the mop on his shoes. Cheeky, but funny.
Susan may be a bit fragile but she’s not a nut case like the media makes her out to be. So don’t be a part of it.
There is a thumb-sucking photo that is cropped from a large photo that shows a bunch of people around her laughing at her joke.
There is a VIDEO that shows her telling her “baby steps” joke and then jumping up and bowing, while laughing. Access Hollywood had to retract their story.
Andy, you hate Susan Boyle. You just do. You insult her, you say she “sucks.” You didn’t print one positive thing about her even though she broke record after record on the charts. Because you hate her so badly you can’t imagine that she isn’t this caricature you’ve created in your mind. That’s sad for you, not Susan.
Andy – the “being comforted” photos at the airport… did you see the entire run of photos – four of them. Three are of the two of them laughing, one is them looking pensive. WHy don’t you mention there are three photos of them laughing at the airport? Of course… I know why….Check the Daily Mail photos…. four of them…but only one could be used to suggest Susan Boyle was unstable so that’s the one discussed…
One final – what about the many, many photos of Susan Boyle laughing and smiling outside her home – including just this week. Or her numerous comments about how her favorite thing is traveling (including in a recent CBS interview)? Or any of that? Funny how you don’t ever mention these things….
Perhaps I need to be more positive about her. I really have nothing against her as a person. It’s true I don;t care for her music, but she seems a genuine, albeit lost soul. I do worry about her. And, i think you’d agree, with good reason: http://www.musictoob.com/susan-boyle-i-suffer-from-depression-13407
As far as 24 hour care, her brother(who should learn to say ‘no comment’)was referring to a brake-in at her home and the need for security. If her depression is so debilitating, then why did her family give her the responsibility of taking care of the elderly and ill parents? Why didn’t they take care of her?
The thumbsucking was a “joke” because she had just said her signature phrase “baby steps”. It took place at a luncheon with fans after her performance at Rockefeller. Many fans who were there have posted on Susan’s fansites and all over the internet trying to refute the ridiculous interpretation of what occured as portrayed by the media.
Many many people suffer depression and anxiety. That doesn’t mean that with the right support they can’t function and lead a productive life. But with the media breathing down her back it may be difficult for her. It’s was the media that caused Susan’s breakdown during the BGT finals and if she does have to leave the limelight it will be the media that has caused it. Get off her back and let her and her fans have some peace!
And her manager was comforting her – SO WHAT? You have no clue what they were discussing. The fact is she has recorded an incredibly successful album, is doing beautiful live performances all over the world and has a very very loyal fan base. Whatever is happening in her personal life is none of your business.
Andy – regarding the depression issue, yes, she has been very open about her issues. She has a *physical disibility* – brain damage caused by oxygen deprivation at birth. It isn’t a psychological issue – it deals with the brain processing stimuli and emotions.
You can google the effects of oxygen deprivation. It has nothing to do with “mental health” as in psychiatric issues, even if her brothers would like us to believe it does. (I work with many people like Susan Boyle, which is why it’s so close to my heart.)
She can act unusually. That’s clear. But, having a disibility and acting unusually does not equal “on the verge of a breakdown.” It equals needing support and knowing your limits. In that interview you quoted, she was honest that she needs support and says she knows that and has it. She has said the same thing repeatedly. She’s going to have little incidents every now and then, but that’s normal and okay.
Would you tell someone missing an arm that they shouldn’t be allowed to do any sports? No, you’d find a way to accomodate. Susan and her management and supportive family have done that.
She’s traveled extensively, given numerous interviews, never failed to perform wonderfully, never missed a commitment. Over a year, you came up with the Priory clinic, the NY thumb incident (disputed), a supposed incident in an airport with a mop (disputed) and a photo showing her being supposedly “comforted.” That’s it??? For a massive world celebrity, I’d say that’s pretty darn good.
Can you not see that – yes, she has an acknowledged disibility, but just maybe she’s managed to overcome it to succeed? And just maybe there are some around her who would benefit by her being declared unable to care for herself?
Andy, I was in NY. I saw the thumb sucking incident. It’s been explained countless times and can be seen on a video on YouTube.
Please, enough with that.
The comforting that she was getting from Mr. Stephens could have been a matter of her wondering if she unplugged the iron. That was hardly a meltdown, everyone gets upset now and then, and if you looked further you would have seen pictures of them smiling moments later.
I wonder if someone followed you everywhere with a camera if perhaps they’d see you a bit upset now and then, or are you a complete moron that has a smile on your face 24/7.
Just let the lady sing, she’s not hurting anyone and does NOT deserve all the negativity that she’s had since she had the audacity to enter a talent show.
She got a whole lot more than she bargained for but how could anyone know what was going to happen.
She freakin just wanted to sing.
This is all getting very, very old.
People keep worrying that she’s going to have a breakdown while at the same time do everything that they can to insure that it happens, just like they did while she was on the talent show.
They didn’t let up on her for 7 freakin weeks, and then wondered what happened!!
