Simon Cowell has claimed that he would have walked away from Susan Boyle if she didn’t want a music career.
The Britain’s Got Talent runner-up is signed to Cowell’s SyCo label, but the reality TV judge insisted that she was not forced into making a record.
“I said to [her family] at the time, the truth is, if this is too much for her or if she doesn’t want to do it, we’ll rip the contract up. No-one is going to be forced into doing anything,” he told Newsnight.
“We were going to make a lot of money and we have, but I would have walked away from that, I would.”
Cowell confessed that it is likely his record company will make more money than the Scottish singer from her number one debut I Dreamed A Dream.
“That’s normally the way it operates, but she’s going to make a lot of money,” he said.
The 50-year-old also admitted that he has a duty of care to Boyle and confessed that he had misjudged the pressure she had been under while on Britain’s Got Talent.
