The Musictoob/Shake party last night at Le Royale, presented with AriZona Vapor Water, was spectacular! Apollo Heights, hot on the heels of Spike Lee’s 20th anniversary party for ‘Do The Right Thing,’ played an impromptu set and jammed until the wee hours. Queens rapper Prophit kept the party hyped, burlesque performer Strawberry Cream Puff danced with a lollipop and — quiz time — which prominent fashion designer wears a pirate ship on his head to parties? Twins Danny and Daniel Chavis, formerly of Polygram Records’ The Veldt, founded the group, and their brand of unapologetic shoegazing quickly drew the attention of the Cocteau Twins’ Robin Guthrie, who produced their debut White Music For Black People in 2007.
