"Musictoob serves up juicy tidbits from the music scene" - The Wall Street Journal
The Ukranian-born gypsy punk and Gogol Bordello singer, Eugene Hutz, plays the lead in Madonna’s first outing as a director, ‘Filth and Wisdom’, due for US release later this month. Running at only 81 minutes long, it only just makes it as a proper feature film. The Hollywood Reporter says it is: “Ragged, uneven and potholed with some dire dialogue and performances,” but decides “the film’s cockeyed optimism and likable leads conspire to bring a smile by the time it’s done” even if “the message…is that all of us can find peace of mind and happiness if we just get in touch with our inner slut.” A trailer has appeared online. The story follows A.K (Hutz), a would-be singer, who finances his musical dreams of stardom by moonlighting as a cross-dressing dominatrix. A.K is in love with his flatmate, Holly, who works as a stripper at a local club. So far so pervy. The third lead, Juliette, works in pharmacy and dreams of going to Africa to adopt help starving children. Richard E. Grant even pops up.
