We Got To Have Peace

This wonderful Curtis Mayfield clip comes from a Vietnam War era live performance on British TV in 1974. If you are wondering what happened to righteous Rn’B the answer was Barry White. His success banished socially conscious songs from Rn’ B and they never came back. Shame really. Anyone can rock out, but here Curtis Mayfield’s band play with a balanced restraint. (You really notice how quietly they are performing on the fade out). Obviously, this song seems pertinent today.

Andy, thanks for bringing this piece to my attention. Great to have it unearthed.

I’m not saying I’m some huge fan of yours, but don’t pay any mind to the haters (Idolator, etc.). They’re not doing anything productive for this world by hating. Just perpetuating negativity and taking up space. If they don’t like you or your writing, they can certainly ignore it as opposed to singling you out for ridicule. That’s kids in the playground crap, without the repurcussions of getting punched in the nose.

Who needs it? It’s terribly old and tired anyway, at least for me.
